This guide will show you how to curate Burster using Flashpoint Core.
Before You Start
This tutorial will assume you've read the standard Curation Tutorial, which is highly recommended to go through.
Recognizing Burster
Burster content files come in two file formats: .blend, which is unencrypted, and .blendz, which is encrypted. When entering a page with Burster content, these are some ways to find the location of the file:
- Right-click the page and click "View Page Source" (or alternatively, use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+U), then look for an
object
orembed
tag with a link to the content file. - Right-click the page and click "Inspect Element" (or alternatively, use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+I), then click "Network", then refresh the page. If a .blend or .blendz file appears, click on it in the list, and a link to the file will be available.
Notes
Before you begin, keep in mind some software titles may not work, e.g. Pong Remake. It may be possible to fix this by running them in an older version of Burster instead (Flashpoint uses the latest version, 1.6.2, which supports Blender files that run in versions 2.49b and 2.64a).
Curation Steps
Follow the Curation Format to add metadata for your game and create its correct content folder. The Platform should be Burster
and the Application Path should be FPSoftware\startBurster.bat
. This is in order to make the game work in Flashpoint if the user does not have Burster installed.
- If running the bare .blend or .blendz file, link to the
.blend
or.blendz
file, depending on what file extension the game uses, for examplehttps://web.archive.org/web/20110108072607if_/http://geta3d.com/geta3d/blends/logo8bit.blend
. - If running the .blend or .blendz file embedded, link to the URL of the page where it's located. It can be a simple URL like
http://3d8bits.orgfree.com
, or it can link to the page, for examplehttp://3d8bits.orgfree.com/pong/pong.htm
.
Wrapping It Up
When you're finished testing, export the curation and name the .7z file with the name of the app, and submit it to the #other-game-curations channel of the Flashpoint Discord, or #animation-curations if it's an animation. Use the Burster emoji when submitting.
